Lloyd Bruce Zander, son of Arnold and Mary Ellen Hicks Zander, was born September 11, 1954, at Waverly, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church-Crane Creek of rural Tripoli. He received his education in the Tripoli Schools, graduating from Tripoli High school in 1972. He then attended the University of Iowa for one year.
On December 13, 1980, he was united in marriage with Julianne Buhr at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek. Lloyd farmed the family farm in the Crane Creek area near Tripoli and also worked for several area farmers and Logan Harms.
A resident of Grandview Healthcare Center in Oelwein, Lloyd’s death occurred there on Saturday, December 24, 2011. He was fifty-seven years old and a member of St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek. He enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling, fishing and playing cards.
In addition to his wife, Julianne of Fairbank, he is survived by three sons, Nicholas Zander of Grafenwohr, Germany, Johann (Jennifer) Zander of Woodward, Iowa, and Anthony Herrmann of New Hampton; one daughter, Amber Wilkens and her special friend, Jeremy Richards of Grand Junction, Iowa; six grandchildren; four brothers, Robert (Linda) Zander of Alta Loma, California, Garold (Margaret) Zander, formerly of Denver, Iowa and currently of Budda, Texas, Paul (Carol) Zander of Mt. Auburn, Iowa, and Carl (Carol) Zander of Waverly; and three sisters, Karla Patterson of Blue Grass, Iowa, Susanne (Richard) Kretzschmar-Cowell of Oxford, Iowa, and Patricia (Mark) Zander-Hubing of Iowa City.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Mary Ellen Zander; and his grandparents, Ellen and Lucian Hicks, and Caroline and Henry Zander.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011, at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek with Rev. Sandra Burroughs officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday.
